Educational History: Master's Degree in English and German as Foreign Languages from Astrakhan State University, Astrakhan, Russia. K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL) licensure program from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN.

Why I chose to work at Aspen: I love being a part of Aspen for the following reasons: 1. Collaboration and communication to improve students' learning is continuously fostered and encouraged among all staff (e.g. teachers, teachers and admins, teachers and specialists, admins and specialists, etc.). 2. Huge emphasis on the development of content knowledge and academic language. 3. Uniforms - because students learn to choose friends, based on their personal characteristics and not based on what they wear. 4. Ongoing professional development.

Hobbies/Interests: I love reading, cooking, gardening, walking my dog, playing with my children. I wish I had more time to improve my tennis game. I greatly enjoy traveling to new places and learning about different cultures.

Favorite author/historical figure: For the last few years I greatly enjoyed reading books written by authors who describe life in other parts of the world; those authors happened to be either the 1st or 2nd generation immigrants to the USA. The powerful language used by these authors (e.g. Khaled Hosseini, Amy Tan and Ayaan Hirsi Ali) serves as a direct proof that EL students can reach the utmost language mastery, and that is what I am working so hard for to develop in my students.

Personal motto/inspirational quote: Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school. ~ Albert Einstein. While a student myself I often felt puzzled or even frustrated about having to learn so much information that seemed to be useless in the future. Later I often surprised myself of how quickly I was able to retrieve the necessary information from my long-term memory, and was able to present myself as an educated, intelligent individual during many personal or professional conversations. All that was thanks to my teachers!
